Even as Audi has just released sketches of how the 2012 Audi Q3 Crossover will look like, an electric version of the Audi A3 called the e-Tron is already under development. The Audi A3 e-Tron will be the first commercially produced electric vehicle from Audi and is scheduled to hit markets sometime in 2013.
The A3 e-Tron could feature a battery powered electric motor that churns out 130 Bhp of power and around 270 Nm of torque right from idle, as is the characteristics of electric motors. So, that should endow the A3 e-Tron with some blistering acceleration. But high performance means a rapid drain of the battery.
So, Audi might limit the top speed of the A3 e-Tron to 144 kph and it’s nought to hundred sprint time to 11 seconds in view of a decent range. Talking of which, the A3 e-Tron is touted to deliver a range about 144 kilometers of 90 miles on a single charge of it’s battery stack.
Coming to the Audi Q3, the car model in all likelihood will make it to Indian shores as Audi India needs the crossover to compete with the likes of the rapidly selling BMW X1. But, we are not so sure about the A3 e-Tron making it to India as electric vehicles are yet to find acceptance with Indians due to the initial high purchase costs.
