“My grandfather is my godfather”

Three more days are left for Arulnidhi to takes his family's filmi connection further. Grandson of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who is a famed script writer and son of M K Thamizharasu, who had produced films like ‘Gopura Vasalile’, Arulnidhi’s maiden heroic venture ‘Vamsam’ is ready for release this Friday.

“My grandfather is my role model. I am amazed at his literary skills. When I told him that I was planning to act in films, he asked me to exercise caution while selecting scripts. I am following his advice,” the young actor says.

His cousins Udhayanidhi Stalin and Dhayanidhi Alagiri and Uncle Kalanithi Maran are already popular producers in Kollywood. “But I wanted to pursue acting because it is my passion,” Arulnidhi says.

“I love and admire every actor in Kollywood. Be it Rajinikanth or Kamal Haasan, I always watch their films and learn a lot from them. ‘Vamsam’ is a feel-good film with more thrust on the content. It was a great experience working with director Pandiraj.”

On selecting a rural subject for his debut, he says, “I would have chosen a city-based theme. But Pandiraj’s story made me glued to it. Moreover I wanted to be a simple, lovable and boy- next-door in my first film.”
